Beautifully drawn animation, but unfortunately the story is far too weak, so it doesn't really get anywhere. A shame: the work that went into the drawings also deserved to be viewed and appreciated by adults, but with such a lack of real tension and interesting characters, it is at most a film for children.

After Le Chat du Rabbin another French cat animation film was set up.

Une Vie de Chat is clearly more aimed at small children. The story is very weak and not at all exciting, with a bunch of Bassie & Adriaan level criminals as opponents. Although the humor is better than an average American animated film, it is still nothing to write home about.

So that leaves the animation style. It's very good; the cat is even more beautiful than in the aforementioned film. Unfortunately, the beast does not talk here and plays more of a passive role. The backgrounds of Paris and the light/dark effects are very nicely done.

Not memorable as a whole, but nice to see. 3***

Since the death of her father, Zoé [Lauren Weintraub] has become very attached to her cat Dino and hardly talks to her mother (and police officer) Jeanne [Marcia Gay Harden] or her nanny Claudine [Anjelica Huston]. But Dino leads a double life as a sidekick to 'cat burglar' Nico [Bruno Salomone]. When Dino brings home a valuable bracelet one day, Zoe becomes curious and decides to follow Dino at night. As a result, she discovers that her babysitter belongs to a group of criminals led by Victor Costa [JB Blanc]. The animation is simple, but inventive, the characters and their relationships are well developed and the running time of barely 60 minutes proves that quality always comes before quantity. Originally spoken in French, but there is also a Dutch spoken version with the voices of Maaike Cafmeyer, Rick de Leeuw and Willeke van Ammelrooy, among others.
