Raajneeti plot

"Politics ... and Beyond"

"Raajneeti" is the story of a man's struggle to get away from his family's occupation - politics. But considering he is up to his neck in it, he must fight to master the game and unwittingly descend into the hell that is moral Indian democracy. The rivalry of two cousins escalates into an all-consuming war, drawing the protagonist into the dark side of dealing with his enemies. This complements his own journey into corruption. Political tactics, unstoppable ambition, and a blind lust for power are paramount here...

Phew. For a while now, it has been my own unwritten rule that I write a first post for every movie I've seen here that didn't have a comment yet.

I am not entirely sure how I got the film. The first movie file I had was of low quality. I couldn't find suitable subtitles, which made the film impossible to watch. With a lot of effort, I managed to get hold of a better quality file (peanut buttered). With this one, I did find suitable subtitles. Unfortunately, these didn't go beyond an hour. Given that the film is almost three hours long, this wasn't much use to me. Eventually, I managed to find subtitles that matched the dialogue quite well, give or take a few seconds. And so I was able to follow the film almost entirely.

Not that I was particularly into it... Look. Personally, I'm not that into Bollywood films. Too big cultural differences? Too unfamiliar? Maybe I just need to get into it and watch a few good films. I don't know what to say about this film. To me, it all felt very forced. The many political attacks and changes made it very difficult for me to keep following. And why on earth did this have to last three hours? What a long sit...

The numerous attacks on each other's families, friends, etc., also make it all very improbable. Women seem to be pregnant after just one sexual encounter. I find it all very misogynistic, too. And I already have a love-hate relationship with politics anyway. This doesn't make things any better. Every politician is, by rule, a money-grabber. Anywhere in the world. That is my personal opinion.

I can't get anything out of this film? What is the ultimate message here? Violence pays? The strongest wins? Power always reigns? Killing people is okay?

No. I don't understand it. And I don't really want to understand it either.

Feel free to correct me.
