The Guard plot
"The FBI are about to discover that things work a little differently around here."
Three drug dealers are preparing an operation to smuggle in half a billion dollars worth of cocaine on the west coast of Ireland. The only ones standing in their way are straightforward FBI agent Wendell Everett and Gerry Boyle, a rather unconventional Irish cop with a dying mother, a taste for prostitutes and absurd humor.

You may like the weird, absurd humor, but it worked well for me. It makes a huge difference that Gleeson carries this film with conviction, otherwise it could have turned out very differently.

Good film about an Irish agent and an American FBI agent who are on the trail of some drug dealers. Certainly not your standard police film. The course and especially the main character is not easy to predict. This may be a bit unbalanced, but also fresh at the same time. Nice dialogues and Brendan Gleeson and Don Cheadle do a nice job together.

Great movie. Tailored to Gleeson. I wonder how the film was received in the US. There it is less easy to make humor out of racial prejudice, no matter how funny. Dialogues that are not inferior to those in a Tarantino film. Well-developed types, in other words, who refute the image (prejudice) that villains, drug traffickers, etc. are mindless bastards and that all FBI agents are from the behavioral science department. Setting in the desolate Irish coastal landscape a welcome change. Cheadle fitted the story perfectly.
