Abel plot
After little Abel is brought home from the mental institution by his mother, the family worries about how Abel will cope with his father's absence and whether he will collapse emotionally. Abel surprises everyone by his decision to become the head of the household and take over all of the father's responsibilities.

Quite a nice drama with a touch of humor here and there, but the drama mainly dominates. The story was quite well thought out and nicely executed and the boy (played Christopher Ruíz-Esparza) who thinks he is the father of the family played well and convincingly. The rest of the cast also performed well. The story is actually not really cheerful because the film ends more or less as it began. Nice to have seen.

Some people may know Diego Luna better as one of the actors from Y Tu Mamá También (2001) by Alfonso Cuaron. The film is about a nine-year-old boy with psychological problems who returns home after a hospital stay. There is no father figure and the mother is alone with her three children. Abel is initially very silent and closes himself off from the outside world. Suddenly he takes on the role of father in the family, starts talking again and switches to commanding. There is no real explanation as to how and why. It all comes across as rather forced and easy.
Luna seeks a balance between realism and fun, does not always succeed, but does deliver an enjoyable film. Christopher Ruíz-Esparza gives a solid performance as Abel. But the other cast also does well. The script is a bit shaky and not always believable. All in all, fun to watch, but certainly a tragicomedy in which Luna shows his potential.
