Winds of Sand, Women of Rock plot
Every year, as the dates ripen, the Toubou women of Bedouaram prepare for their annual caravan trip. Here in the far south of the Sahara in Niger, the desert women travel 1500 km to a date plantation to help with the picking. The sale of the one-season dates allows a nomadic family to remain economically independent for a year and buy all necessary foodstuffs. The women undertake this perilous journey with their children, but their husband is not there, he tends the camel herd at home. During this journey, the nomadic women share their secrets and fears, children are born, and the dreams of modern life impose themselves.
