As expected, another very bizarre work by the Japanese.

Mutant Girls Squad starts off nicely (opening scene feels like some sort of Power Rangers on acid). Rin finds out on her sixteenth birthday that she is a Hiruko (mutant). What follows is total madness and chaos. The chase in the streets was probably my favorite part of the movie. Lots of gore, lots of humor, lots of incredibly bad CGI, and a wonderfully overacting cast.

When Rin joins the other mutants, things become less interesting. As is often the case with these kinds of Japanese movies, at a certain point a feeling of 'I've seen it all' dominates. Although I have to be honest that even then I was still pleasantly surprised by some bizarre characters and/or scenes. The ending is too much of a good thing. Too much happens, it looks too ugly, and it is too chaotic. Or maybe that was because my attention had already waned.

3.0*. I think I will never become a real fan of this kind of movies. I definitely laughed out loud a few times because of the brilliant cast or bizarre ideas, but at a certain point (well before the movie ends) I am also a bit done with it.

Aah Mutant Girls Squad with mjumie Yumi Sugimoto and Yuko Takayama and from director Yoshihiro Nishimura, almost in line with his Tokyo Gore Police I had already seen this a few years ago, but apparently I had not given it a score yet. So I watched it again. And that is a blessing, I really love this, pure Japanese gore pulp, almost kitschy, crazy humor, delicious. Everything seems so fake and that does not bother me, bad in this case is sublime. I do not really watch this as horror pur sang, but yes as Japanese pulp in its purest form and that is just hilarious top entertainment. Cosplay is never far away with Japanese people

I started the film without subtitles. And actually the synopsis is enough to make your plan. This mutant film is a series of 90 minutes of full drive nonsense. For me personally, delightful is not the right description, entertaining comes a bit closer.

The breathing breaks are scarce and short, which means you are almost non-stop in action mode, with this also limited dialogues. You get the many screams instead.

Be prepared for fountains of blood like you've never seen before, with gore that's more kitschy than disgusting. So fake that it's humorous. You won't get bored. Very colorful and some things remind me of X-men, but then in its most parodic form. Well, not 100% my thing, but still.
