De Zevende Hemel plot
Samuel's life is a real mess. His girlfriend has run off and he has been unemployed for six months. He absolutely does not like it anymore and decides to end his life. During his suicide attempt, he accidentally saves the life of his neighbor Charlyne, who is also suffering from heartbreak. In his desperation he invents a true lie: he is her guardian angel and has been given three days from 'above' to make her want to start living again. It doesn't take long before Charlyne realizes her upstairs neighbor, but she lets herself be carried away by his rich imagination and they go out together...

The film that even Urbanus regrets. He was asked to star in this film, but when it came down to it, he wasn't allowed to use his own signature humor. The result: Urbanus feels out of place and his humor falls flat. What was supposed to be a film like Hector or Koko Flanel turned into a spectacular flop. Far too serious and just plain awkward and overly forced.

Urbanus's weaker film compared to Coco Flanel or Hector. A somewhat absurd and, above all, unconvincing premise about the descending angel. Yet, that is necessary to make the film truly successful. As for that invisible stuff... no, it just doesn't work and comes across as simply bland.
Fortunately, the freshness and humor lie in the little things. Urbanus is quite on form with his distinctive humor and dialogue. Nowadays, perhaps a bit dated in that regard. Still, there are a number of fun scenes here and there, especially when Samuel himself starts dating again to forget his Charlyne.
It never becomes memorable, and some subplots certainly could have been left out. I found Peter Vanden Begin's character, for example, more irritating than adding anything, let alone the dim-witted hotel owner. The shots with the car and the pigeons were quite nice too. I certainly enjoyed it, but overall it just didn't quite make the cut.

I never understood why this was (and perhaps still is) panned so harshly. I’ve always found it to be a very beautiful story with lovely messages, and when you see the film for the first time it also has a nice twist. The humor in this film is somewhat less exuberant and hilarious than we might be used to from Urbanus, although in Hector it is certainly different from Koko Flanel. I think it highlighted his versatility as a comedian a bit more. Ultimately, it remains somewhat the same at its core—being an anti-hero film—but here sharing the spotlight more with Renée Soutendijk and being a bit more serious, with more subtle humor than slapstick laughter.
