In 1945, 18-year-old Clarence Carnes, who has been sentenced to 99 years in prison, arrives at the infamous Alcatraz, becoming the youngest person to ever sit there. In 1946, he tries unsuccessfully to escape the "Battle of Alcatraz", befriends Robert "Birdman of Alcatraz" Stroud, and witnesses Frank Morris's legendary escape in 1962.
