L'Été en Pente Douce plot

Fane lives in a shabby city quarter, where he spends a lot of time in a cafe with his friends. One day he gets his neighbor's girlfriend Lilas in exchange for a rabbit. The next day he learns that his mother has died and he drives with Lilas to the southern rural village where she lived. He meets his brother Mo again, who has been disabled since he played with a hand grenade as a child. Fane wants to marry Lilas, become a writer and care for Mo outside the hospital. He wants to make something of his life, but the hostility and bigotry of the villagers throws a spanner in the works.

The division between flat floor and shocking appears to be somewhat shaky here, but it's just going in the right direction here. Jacques Villeret was best known as the Martian from that Louis de Funes film with that soup that made you wind up, but he also wanted to play in serious films.

In any case, a rather negative image of France in the eighties and it is not entirely impossible that the director tried to make something in the style of Betty Blue, which succeeded somewhere halfway, although we also think of the Dutch films from the 1980s. 70 and 80 ... High Heels Real Love that kind of work.

Well, we are always grateful to TV5 for showing those French films that apparently no one is interested in anymore, always better than 70% of the commercial film production.

Here still with the cooperation of Claude Chabrol, but director Krawczyk would go for commerce after this (Taxi 2, 3 and 4, Wasabi) and after seeing this film we think that's a pity, it might well have grown into a interesting director.

Still a good film about the jealousy, selfishness and stupidity of a village community and the brutal superficiality and stupidity of the main characters. Jacques Villeret is brilliant in the role of the retarded brother. Pauline Lafon is excellent as a frivolous and voluptuous girl and Guy Marchand has another role as an unreliable, conniving but actually cowardly man. Claude Chabrol plays the role of the village pastor.

Good French cinema.

Doesn't start very special as a kind of Flodder with the French battle, with Lafont skillfully playing the Tatjana role. Ends on a more serious note, but that works even less. So pretty mediocre.
