Beautiful film in which a group of American journalists visit a village in Sudan, just before it is attacked. A film about the genocide in Darfur that is realistically portrayed without any concessions. The film shows in all its ugliness the horrors that man is capable of. Quite moving.

Phew.

It is sometimes a mystery to me why Boll is known as the "worst director of all time". Especially with films like this, the man proves to have talent. He is also a director who simply puts everything on screen.

Although it does take a bit too long before the really hard images begin. When the Americans briefly enter the village and have so much sympathy for the inhabitants, I actually believe it. It's just a bit too corny.

Moreover, it is quite boring. Boll portrays it in a kind of Greengrass film, but the effect of that only starts after 40 minutes. And when those 40 minutes have arrived, we are presented with nauseating and powerful cinema.

Strikingly hard delivered. Mercilessly captured on camera, making you feel quite uncomfortable as a viewer. And that seems to be what Boll wants. The slaughter is captured on camera with real impact and leaves little to the imagination. You simply feel helpless.

This kind of cinema is unfortunately the cinema that needs to get a bit more attention. Whether you like it or not, it does show what exactly is happening and is therefore quite important. You would think that it is quite useless since it is mainly about the murders, but that is actually exactly the message that Boll is putting down here.

No unnecessary romance, no unnecessary and irritating drama around it, but a cold, hard film that shows what cruel tricks do not happen in these kinds of areas. Boll is for me a really solid director, as long as he concentrates on something that contains a bit of a message, and not a Hollywood spectacle. Felt really awful afterwards, and that is saying something.

Uwe Boll's best film. He shows with Darfur that he is a filmmaker who dares. He has balls. They could not broadcast this film on TV or put it on a streaming service today.

Boll knows how to create an extremely realistic atmosphere. With everything filmed handheld, the film comes across as a documentary/reportage.

The acting is a bit over the top here and there but overall very good.

Boll is a very good storyteller when he writes about things that Hollywood doesn't dare to write about. As a director he wants to shock and he proves that all too well with Darfur.

I'm looking at his latest projects "Run & The Dark Knight"
