The brothers Jesse and Frank James are former outlaws. Both go incognito as John Howard and Bob Carroll to help Lon Royer an old member of their gang. Royer now runs a esteemed freight forwarding company, but is constantly attacked by his competitor Ace Marlin, who seeks a monopoly. Unable to prevent Royer's murder, the James brothers go to help Peg, Lon Royer's daughter, who took over her father's business. Both must face the ruthless gunfighter Monk Tucker, employed by Ace Marlin, and the corrupt Belle Calhoun, employed by the Royers.
