Blue Eyed plot

Jane Elliott is a former teacher from the United States who has been campaigning for tolerance and against racism for over twenty years. Xenophobia, she argues, has less to do with the color of one's skin, but more with social prejudices such as rich and poor, superior and inferior. To show how arbitrary these categories are, she organizes courses for diverse groups of people, such as students, factory workers or the entire staff of a bank. She then divides these people into two groups on the basis of a fairly arbitrary external characteristic - namely, you have blue or brown eyes. She then attributes all kinds of positive qualities to those with brown eyes. Through this simple method, many people experience for the first time what it means to be discriminated against on the basis of appearance.
