Dirty Pictures plot

Museum curator Dennis Barrie decides to open an exhibition of the work of controversial photographer Robert Maplethorpe. This exhibition arouses the ire of petty-bourgeois America, which unleashes a crusade against these obscene photos. Barrie, convinced that this is art in a way, gets into such a fight with the local sheriff that he is charged. A lawsuit follows in which a biased jury must decide what can pass as art and what is just plain pornography.
