Nagai Sanpo plot
Matsutaro Yasuda is a retired headmaster of a girls' school. He has lost his wife to alcoholism and his daughter doesn't want to see him anymore. Yasuda then moves to a village in the countryside to live there in peace. He soon makes contact with the 5-year-old girl next door, who stares silently ahead and appears ill-groomed. At night, Yasuda hears her mother and lover screaming. He didn't really want to get involved... but something moves him to take the girl on a long hike.
