The film follows the events inside the St. Gregory Hotel in New Orleans. While the owner of the hotel (Melvyn Douglas) and his manager (Rod Taylor) negotiate hard with O'Keefe, who wants to take over the hotel, we follow the problems of the Duke (Michael Rennie) and Duchess (Merle Oberon) who are in the middle of the night. hotel stays and the adventures of the hotel thief Keycase (Karl Malden).
