"The Spanish soldiers were not as ruthless as they were depicted"
1616. In a village in Flanders, the mayor prepares his daughter's wedding to the local baker. She is in love with someone else. Then the village is startled by the news that the Spaniards are invading it. Almost everyone flees and the mayor pretends to be dead. His wife, however, calls all the women together to give the Spaniards a 'warm' welcome. In addition, her daughter may be able to find the right man.
