A western like so many were made in the 40s and 50s, not good and not bad, it was the pre-TV era so the cinemas needed a larger selection.

This is also the age-old story of an innocent person who ends up in a complicated situation again against his will, meets a beautiful woman for whom it is worth fighting for and who ultimately ends up in a good place because the sheriff knows how to value his sacrifice.

A routine western, routinely acted and directed, the film is therefore not boring, but does not reach great heights either, because the story has been filmed so many times in all kinds of ways, you can see the few plot twists coming a mile away.

A nice supporting role was played by Gina Gillespie, who would later play a role in Whatever happened to baby Jane, here she plays a little smartass who connects the hero of the story to her mother. Also nice to note, James Coburn playing one of his first roles on the silver screen.

This is typically the kind of movie you watch when you have a moment of doing absolutely nothing, not good, not bad and probably only enjoyable for western fans.

A solid western with some psychological depth in the main character and the sheriff (it remains superficial but that doesn't matter).

For the rest, it is interesting enough to keep your attention, the characters are well fleshed out, everything else is solid and this kind of story is never really boring, even though it does not rise above mediocrity.
