Find this "Conte d'Hiver" neatly below "Conte d'Eté" and "Conte d'Automne". It is certainly not the actors' fault, but the story lacks the subtlety of the other two and that "lapsus" seems a bit far-fetched. The dialogues, on which the film ultimately largely relies, I thought were quite good, clear and free, but at certain moments there was a surplus of too deep philosophy in my opinion.

Romance remains the common thread in this film series by Eric Rohmer.

I am a fan of Eric Rohmer's films. You have to be aware that his main characters are almost always characters that you would like to stick behind the wallpaper. They don't trace. They're difficult. Choose the hardest way. Think too much and talk too much. Like this Félicie. She can't decide which man she wants to live with. And her 'great love' has disappeared. She did, however, have a child. That says more sensible things than her mother. I got a little tired of this 'Christmas movie'. It takes place during Christmas, in Paris and Nevers.

But the film can still be seen in those thirty years. We don't care that much about this gossip now and then. At least not me. The 'French disease' also takes the upper hand here. Too much text, too much dialogue, too much drivel, too little visuals, too little action, too little film. As far as I'm concerned, the weakest of his four 'narrations'.
