Mausoleum isn't a groundbreaking work. The story, about a woman who becomes possessed by a demon, offers precious little substance. The setting is also sparse. The settings are very limited and (except for a crypt) unexciting. The same applies to the camerawork. The recording of the events is rather undynamic. It's rather dull and stale. The mundane camerawork doesn't add any extra tension or excitement.

Still, the film itself is quite enjoyable. This is mainly due to the handcrafted special effects, which may not always be convincing, but which do express a lot of love and commitment. I can really enjoy that.

Additionally, the acting isn't all that bad and the kills are of a decent standard, making the viewing experience a bit more than just a routine viewing session.

It's B-horror with some great effects, a bit of gore, a beautiful demon and some nice kills.

So, pretty ok.

A fun horror film. The effects are very cool. Dated and fake perhaps, but cool nonetheless. The film doesn't really contain a lot of gore or bloody scenes, but what is there is effectively and carefully presented. That's kind of why I watch these kinds of films, right? The same goes for the lighting. It's nicely done and certainly creates a beautiful and tense atmosphere, although it all remains too dull to truly immerse yourself in. No matter, because the entertainment is just as entertaining. The most important thing is that the film never bores: there's always something fun going on, to varying degrees, whether planned or not. (The bizarre music choice for the cleaning lady, the gardener who's just really funny, the bad haircuts...) The awesome 80s vibe completes the picture.

A cheesy horror film with somewhat dated effects, lacking suspense and a well-constructed story. However, the 80s vibe and certain horror elements, such as the use of shadows, the atmospheric mausoleum itself, and the green, supposedly creepy eyes of the sexy Bobbie Bresee (who, incidentally, enjoys taking her clothes off), make it a decent film. 5/10
