Insurance Investigator plot
George Sullivan, John Hammond's business partner, dies seemingly suddenly. Hammond is also the beneficiary of Sullivan's dual insurance policy. Because this is the fourth double-insurance death in the region in recent months in Sam Marlo, California, the insurance company is having their agent Tom Davison investigate the causes of death. Nancy, George Sullivan's daughter, assists Davison in his investigation. Davison takes a job as a salesman at Hammond's company and soon finds himself dealing with a gangster gang led by one Chuck Malone. Malone orders Hammond to be killed, pretending to be suicide to divert suspicions from him and his gang. But then another man double-insured at Hammond's company is killed and Davison still suspects Malone. Malone then kidnaps Davison.
