Skjult plot
Kai Koss (aka KK), reluctantly returns to the town he left nineteen years earlier. His cruel mother recently passed away and left him his childhood home. He plans to leave once everything is settled, but his legacy also includes bleak and deadly secrets. KK becomes entangled in a series of events that seems to be beyond anyone's control… Not everyone in town is happy about his return, and when a young camping couple disappears, he gets into real trouble. As he tries to control the present, shadows from the past hover around him. It turns out he's been trying to forget for the past twenty years, but he discovers there are things you can't escape.

Excellent Norwegian horror film by the director of Darkwoods who was also very good. This film still manages to work well in many areas. Once again the director chooses the forests as locations and here too he manages to sketch a nicely dark and unpredictable psychological horror film. I also found the character KK to be superlative and as usual, when he returns to his old environment, he is immediately received unfriendly and the idea that he may have something on his conscience is also getting closer, or has he just been set up? Anyway, that's the kind of story it becomes. That red-masked murderer also remains interesting, especially when we find out who is behind it.
Simply another great 2nd film by Oje (with a line through that O)

It all came as quite a disappointment to me.
Despite the interesting and beautiful setting, it all takes a very long time before Hidden gets going and that going is also short-lived. Especially the tension arc is completely absent. A few predictable jump scares are supposed to take care of that, but that doesn't work at all.
The acting is quite nice and what is done well here is keeping the mystery of the person behind the murders. The murders themselves are not very spectacular and not very well portrayed. The camera work was a bit disappointing anyway. In a setting like this you could have gotten a lot out of it, but Pål Øie does not manage to get the most out of it by far.
The last twenty minutes are perhaps the best. There is actually some tension and I didn't mind the reveal of the murderer. However, that doesn't change the fact that it was all mediocre as a whole. Not very exciting, not really original and ultimately not all that captivating. The location, the acting and the nice atmosphere at least provide some points.

Hidden is a horror film that in my eyes is characterized by a great atmosphere and a nice setting. Unfortunately, it is not fully worked out effectively because the film lacks a lot of tension for a long time. The lack of jump scares is also a small disappointment.
