Firaaq plot
After a train fire that killed dozens of Hindus, bloody riots broke out between Hindus and Muslims in 2002 in the state of Gujarat in western India. Arati (Deepti Naval) afterwards has remorse for not letting in a fleeing, wounded Muslim woman. To ease her conscience, she takes care of the little Muslim boy Mohsin (Mohammad Samad), who is looking for his father. Arati's husband Sanjay (Paresh Rawal) has participated in the looting of the shop of Sameer (Sanjay Suri), who now wants to move to the safe Delhi with his Hindu wife Anuradha (Tisca Chopra). Sanjay's brother Bapuji (Honey Chhaya) has been accused of raping Muslim women. Muneera (Shahana Goswami) and her husband Hanif (Nowaz) went into hiding during the riots. When they return home, they find their house burnt out and completely destroyed. Muneera suspects her Hindu friend Jyoti (Amruta Subhash) of knowing more about it. Hanif wants revenge.
