Good film about a prisoner who makes a number of notes that turn out to be true. It takes quite a while for the many different storylines to come together, but it ultimately forms an original story. The same more or less applies to the editing, which is sometimes abrupt and sometimes inventive. More than 80 years later, of course also interesting as a time document.

Intriguing sequel that has more to do with the mind than with the character of Dr Mabuse, as the title promises. That does not alter the fact that Rudolf Klein-Rogge still manifests himself in an impressive way with his open brain, eyes as big as eggs and hooked nose that makes him look like a sick bird of prey - even in these times of CGI- horror is still unpleasantly grotesque and scary (he almost trumps Otto Wernicke as Kriminalkommissar Lohmann, although he combines menace and humor very well). Curiously enough, this film seems a bit more dated than its silent predecessor, eleven years older, mainly thanks to the overacting of Professor Baum's scientific explanation, the indignation of Tom Kent and the adoration of the unbearably dull Lilli ("Was geht das mich an , Tom? Ich liebe dich!"), but that is a problem that more early talkies have. And although Das Testament is only two hours long, it somehow seems slower than the two-and-a-half hour longer Spieler, perhaps because there is no music is used to make the editing and plot flow more smoothly and because there is little "ambiance" sound, the whole thing retains a certain artificiality (again, like more early talkies). That does not alter the fact that this is also a fascinating film that plays a beautiful game with appearance and reality; Even now that I have seen this film four times, it is not boring. I never had much interest in his American thrillers, but now that I have seen his most important German films I understand why Fritz Lang is considered such a great gentleman.

Intriguing premise in which the devilish doctor Mabuse can induce people to commit crimes (murders) through a kind of hypnosis/trance. His writings from prison are a kind of blueprint for what is to come.

Although I saw a restored version, but even without that it is technically a very strong film from that period. But Fritz Lang was one of the top directors of his time. With M – Eine Stadt sucht einen Mörder and Metropolis he already achieved great heights, even today.

The content is admittedly a bit long-winded or a bit messy. There were some side steps that were not always necessary for the story. The ending is strong. Mysterious and technically above average again.
