Dyadya Vanya plot

A retired professor has retired to his estate to live with his beautiful young wife Yelena. The estate originally belonged to his first wife, who has passed away. Her mother and her brother also live there and run a farm. For many years, the brother - Uncle Vanya - gave the profits from the agricultural business to the professor, while he himself received only a small salary. Sonya, the professor's daughter, who is the same age as his new wife, also lives on the estate. The professor is pompous, cocky, and often in a bad mood. He enlists the help of Astrov, a doctor, to treat his gout, but sends him away without seeing him. Astrov is an experienced doctor who dutifully performs his profession, but has lost his idealism and drinks a lot. Yelena's presence introduces a certain tension into the household. Astrov and Uncle Vanya both fall in love with Yelena, but she rejects them. Yet Yelena feels a lot for Astrov, without the latter noticing. One day, the professor announces that he wants to sell the estate.
