Villa Amalia plot

On a rainy evening in Paris, concert pianist Ann meets her childhood friend Georges. This reunion reinforces her intention to start a new life: she coolly rejects her adulterous husband, cancels her engagements as a pianist, transforms her appearance and radically erases all traces of her old life. First she retires to Georges' country house. A journey takes Ann to Villa Amalia on a pristine Italian island. She fixes up the secluded house and leads a simple life. With Georges as a discreet liaison to her old world, Ann seems to succeed in building a new life.

Well, I am a fan of Isabelle Huppert, I think she is a real actress. But I find the story itself a bit boring, a bit cliche. I don't like the ending either.

Still, I give the film a 3, but that is purely because of IH's natural playing

Difficult movie.

The story is told rather sporadically and homeopathically - the intention is apparently that we fill in the gaps ourselves, or that we see the whole thing only as an atmospheric drawing. Seems mostly unbalanced to me, and fairly large pieces are actually just plain boring. Isabelle Huppert, one of my favorite actresses, plays a bit strange - and above all a very strange and unexplained character.

A positive point is the house from which the title is derived. Great, I would like to live there.

A woman is on the run. She is mostly on the run from herself. She gives up everything she has and goes on a journey. Until she found a house on an Italian island. In the 1970s and 1980s, these kinds of vaguely artistic films were still made regularly. But after that there was no market for it anymore. And sometimes you come across another one like this one. The story of the film itself breathes a wonderful nostalgia. And that is completely in sync with the nostalgia that I also found in this film. This was fun. And not even because it was such a special film. Even though the acting is excellent. I especially enjoyed it because this film breathes nostalgia. And I sometimes need that with today's movies.
