Madame Rosa succeeds in uniting two or three worlds peacefully.
Her recipe: love.
Stunningly beautiful film in which so much is recognizable and which in fact is quite watchable now, given what is currently happening in the world, even though it is almost half a century old.
A drama, but one that focuses very sharply on the Jewish/Arab issues through comical, hilarious and witty scenes.
Moreover, a perfect sketch of the Parisian foreigners' quarter with popular figures, such as herself, as an ex-prostitute, ex-war deportee, the old district doctor, still emotional towards his patients, the father living on an abyss, Lola the former boxer who now in the Bois de Boulogne and acts more helpful than any other authority, the group of blacks, active as an emergency aid brigade...
Often extremely simple to dazzling, convincing dialogues (or monologues), realistic and not disguising the truth and sometimes cynical: "When Jews and Arabs punch each other's faces, it only proves that they are no better than the others... "
It should also not be forgotten that the problem of euthanasia is discussed at that time and what is especially not to be forgotten is the beautiful performance by Simone Signoret and in fact no one from the cast stands out.
The film won an Oscar for best foreign language film in 1978. The Americans had taste.
