Ce Qu'il Faut pour Vivre plot

It is 1952. An Eskimo named Tivii is suffering from tuberculosis. He leaves his family in the north and travels to a sanatorium in Quebec to recover. Far from his family, Tivii feels totally out of place, he doesn't speak a word of French and he doesn't feel at home there. Tivii grows increasingly desperate. At one point it gets so bad that he refuses to eat and prefers to be dead. Sister Carole comes to the conclusion that Tivii's illness isn't the main problem. She ensures that a young orphan is placed in the sanatorium. This is Kaki, who is also sick. He can contact Tivii, because he speaks two languages. By sharing his culture with others and with Kaki, Tivii comes back on top. He then comes up with the idea of adopting Kaki and taking him to his own family.
