The Big Gamble plot
Alan Beckwith is a gambler who owes a hefty debt to mobster boss North. Unable to repay this debt, he desperately devises a final arrangement to repay him. Alan allows North to take out a $100,000 insurance policy on his life. After a period of one year, Alan will commit suicide so that North can take the money. To make things legal, North forces Alan to marry Beverly (her brother is also in debt to North). He also assigns hitman Squint to keep an eye out and do the deed when the time comes. But over time, Alan falls in love with Beverly, befriends Squint and decides he doesn't want to die at all. But how can he convince North to let a barrel slip through his fingers?
