Think of a 0-0 between Barcelona - Real Madrid where the goalkeeper keeps the ball at his feet unhindered for the entire match, including extra time. Or just try to imagine having to watch Justin Pipe try to throw a double 1 for 135 minutes in vain. If director Lav Diaz's goal was to make you as a viewer feel how hopeless and fatally boring life is in the Philippines, then he succeeded. Needlessly stretched takes, filmed with a completely static camera, full of meaningless images. A hideously pretentious arthouse work that makes the Venice Film Festival, where it won the Golden Lion for best film (!), completely unbelievable. The film suddenly comes to life when John Lloyd Cruz appears as a male transvestite/prostitute, the only point of light in this almost infinite darkness. Unfortunately, the film ends in sleep mode again and the only commendable thing about this film is that I managed to sit through it - without an intermission. If this can win a Golden Lion, then it is high time that singer Rinus receives an Edison for his entire oeuvre.
