“Well, this looks like the end of a terrible friendship.”

Nice heist film that has to be very happy with the interplay between Connery and Zeta-Jones. The story is a bit too standard, but these two charismatic acting cannons push the film to a higher level. This makes a dime a dozen film a lot more fun to watch.

The heists themselves are also well executed, with the last part in Kuala Lumpur being a rousing apotheosis. What happens next at the train station is too ridiculous for words, but for Connery and Zeta-Jones I like to turn a blind eye. Entrapment is not a high-flyer, but it is all entertaining.

Surprisingly fun.

And that's actually because of Zeta-Jones, and to a slightly lesser extent Connery. Normally never a fan of the latter, but as an opponent he comes out well here. Fortunately, the story still contains a number of small surprises, making it easy to keep your attention.

Entertaining, 3*.

Average.

A typical heist film, which unfortunately doesn't try very hard to stand out positively. Amiel seems to resign himself to the casting of his central duo and let them do most of the work. The rest of the film is mainly on autopilot.

Connery and Jones do quite well, but they also seem to realize that they have ended up in a mediocre film. They both do their job properly, but it never really sparkles. You can hardly blame them.

Furthermore, there are a few reasonable cracks and Kuala Lumpur as a location is a nice change, but it is mainly things that can only moderately brighten up a film like this. Amiel is just what seems like a lazy director. The best I've seen from him, but unfortunately that doesn't say much.

Not an annoying snack, but really nothing more than that.

2.5*
