On September 29, 1966, 16-year-old Harriet Vanger disappeared without a trace. Now, 40 years later, journalist Mikael Blomkvist is given an unusual assignment: he is asked by industrialist Henrik Vanger to write the history of his family. What he really wants is to find out the truth about Harriet. Mikael thinks he can get out of his rut at the magazine for a while and together with computer expert Lisbeth he starts the assignment. A crime/psycho thriller based on an adaptation of a novel that the director does well in this difficult film. This film is one of the films of recent years, after which two films were made in the continuation of this film. This movie has received a lot of attention and is suitable for those interested in the psychology of cinema. The soundtrack tries to create an atmosphere of dread and although it succeeds in this, the soundtrack seems to be overdone.
