“Please don't think I'm afraid of you. I run a house with fifty crazy bitches.”

Nice slasher movie. It's not all original and every cliché comes along, but the actresses know how to keep your attention. Evigan and Pipes, in particular, are on a roll, and it's a shame the great Harshman is getting killed so soon. At least she brought some life to the brewery. It's also a shame that such a bland and bland pie (Julian Morris) was chosen as the ultimate serial killer, and movies like Halloween, Scream and the recent Happy Death Day did better. The role of Carrie Fisher is small, but she does have some delicious one-liners.

Sorority Row by director Stewart Hendler is a colorful mixture of well-known slasher elements that do not surprise. One is that the film does not shy away from embellishing the clichéd story with many half-naked female teenagers. Well. Need I say more. Actually, these sentences say enough. Sorority Row is yet another bad horror rip-off of an 80s movie. It wouldn't hurt filmmakers (even if it's a rip-off) to invest creatively in a good script or (even better) to take the time to come up with a completely fresh idea and develop it fully.

So Sorority Row is a film full of clichés. And is not particularly good. Fortunately, the film has just enough gore, just enough shock effects and enough naked bodies that the senses still manage to move a bit. Other than that, it's just a flat and unimaginative work.

The kills are pretty good by the way. There is no denying some creativity. The dialogues also have amusing moments with nice sharp outbursts. But yeah. They are just nice side issues. Even the coolest kill with some curious killing tool can't take away from the fact that the underlying story is still predictable and absolutely unexciting. And also the long series of party and bikini images that are frequently shown in the middle part of the film, in all their amusement cannot hide that the middle part is really just a boring piece of film.

Sorority Row is a fun movie for the horror starter. The film presents easy horror. Horror of the assembly line. Horror without a thrilling story with bad actresses, whose only quality is that they look appetizing. It is horror that hardly has anything remarkable to offer the seasoned horror viewer.

Mme.

Mediocre slasher with a stretched first section. The plot doesn't sound too cross-border, but I always give these kinds of films a chance. Especially because I like the concept itself, where ladies compete against a masked/unknown killer. Always nice to see.

Unfortunately, this movie takes extensive time to jump to that part. First, the film makes an attempt at some character development, but this does not really work. The main problem is that no characters are really fun, and they mostly fall into mediocre acting and limited trademarks. Everyone is kinda boring and standard.

Visually, this film does look professional. Nicely shot with appropriate cinematography and a nice style. Especially the second part manages to become a lot smoother with it, but the images remain sharp at all times. The editing is not always light-hearted, but it is hard to deny the film that it is not badly directed on all points.

The second part is mainly slasher, and the film manages to do that nicely. The kills aren't over-the-top brutal, but they're definitely there. It's a pity that some kills are kept off-screen just too much, but the blood is allowed to flow nicely and eventually it continues with enough pace. Once they start to follow each other, the film becomes more and more fun.

It's a shame that the film doesn't achieve much outside of a nice style and nice kills. The finale is spectacular, but the film takes way too long to build everything up. Either you do it right or you don't. By coming up with this kind of half-baked construction, that is not going to benefit the film. Playtime is a bit too long. Not bad otherwise, but the concept requires better work.
