"That girl last night gave great head man!"

The King says this straight into the camera in the uncensored Special Edition DVD. A very rare one by the way. In the original version Elvis is dubbed during this statement and we hear something completely different. It indicates that Elvis 'fall' in this period has begun. Elvis seems stoned as hell when he shouts this, and more often in this documentary/concert recording the man seems somewhat under the influence.

Elvis had of course already become addicted in the early 1960s, but in this film we see the first signs of a man losing control over it.

After the brilliant 'That's The Way It Is' this is possibly even more beautiful for the fans and other music lovers. And then I'm talking about the SE again because it lasts more than twice as long.

Despite the downfall that has set in, Elvis' voice has always remained intact. Beautiful songs like 'American Trilogy' pass by. And they are dramatically beautifully performed by Presley. The behind-the-concert footage is also impressive. You don't have to be a sociologist to see that Elvis was lonely at the top.

Very good.

Somewhat flat documentary about the King's ups and downs on tour. The filmed performances are in my opinion among the best of his career and that is why I give it a high score, a must for every music lover.

The 33rd and last film of Elvis was this concert documentary. It is also his only film ever to win an award, namely a Golden Globe for best documentary. No idea what the competition was like at the time, but I enjoyed it anyway. It gives a good impression of the hectic pace that was going on and a fairly detached superstar who experiences it almost from a distance, it seems at times. It also struck me how polite he was when he was received by officials in some American city or other. Yes Sir. As already mentioned on this forum, Martin Scorsese was involved in the editing of the film as an assistant, without credit. I did read somewhere that he was responsible for the excessive use of split screens. At times it is indeed as if you are watching a De Palma. But this aesthetic approach fits in perfectly with the flashy period of that time. A very charming documentary.
