Värmlänningarna plot
Erik, the son of a rich farmer, and Anna, the daughter of a poor farmer, have known each other since they were children. Now that they have grown up, they love each other, but their parents do not accept their love, for their families have long lived in enmity. Erik's father wants him to marry a rich girl and when Anna learns of this, she becomes seriously ill. She even begins to show signs of insanity.
