What a crap movie!

3 top actors and then make such a useless film, I think it's great.

With Liam Neeson and (to a lesser extent) Antonio Banderas in the lead roles, something more is expected than this glorified television film. The Other Man cannot do anything with this fascinating premise. The games of chess were quickly dropped halfway through the story to get some symbolism, but these are -just like the climax- anything but fascinating. Neeson comes into his own better in raw action films than in a listless drama like this.

The Other Movie would have been a better choice...

A moving and also exciting film, the latter not in a thriller-like sense, but more because of the brooding intensity of the way Neeson Banderas observes and tries to understand. Excellently played by Neeson (and I say that when I'm not fond of him at all), but Banderas (which I don't like much either) is a notch better, at times arrogant, at times understanding, at times taking the blood from under your fingernails, but always a character with a believable and also endearing psychology (his striving to make his/her life more beautiful). Also a great role from Linney, but that almost goes without saying. All in all, a beautiful and compelling film; I can't really empathize with the many negative reactions to this, while nobody says anything about the music of Stephen Warbeck, in itself beautiful but at times very dominant and therefore a minus point for me.
