Great movie!

In my opinion a very enjoyable film. A lot more balanced and interesting than Taped (the recently released film by the same director).

The character development is on the superficial side, but the roles are played credibly. The story itself has a good structure, although the ending is unfortunately a bit rushed.

The audiovisual side is also welcome, certainly compared to the average telefilm. 7/10*

Accidentally watched it a second time because I thought I hadn't seen it yet. Oddly enough, I could have had it a lot better on revision. Color filters and dark shots paint a wry, melancholy picture of returned soldiers and a young lady who suspects something is wrong. It's not original at all, but it plays with the well-known clichés of The Deer Hunter, Platoon and all those other war processing dramas. The break between the weighty drama and the thriller aspect still feels a bit forced. Yet the surreal ending, in which Stella herself witnesses the war crimes, remains a successful conclusion to an otherwise somewhat interchangeable film.

Five professional soldiers befriended go on a mission in Uruzgan, but only four of them return. Stella [Maartje Remmers] has to cope with the death of her brother Twan [Teun Kuilboer] as a result of a roadside bomb, but also struggles with the PTSD of her husband Jur [Javier Guzman]. When an altercation between Twan and Sander [Thijs Römer] ends in tragedy, Stella feels that she has been lied to. When she tries to uncover the truth about her brother's death, she comes up against Sander, Gees [Juda Goslinga] and Dani [Micha Hulshof]. Begins with a slightly battered Stella who demands to see her daughter in front of a court and makes it clear in flashbacks why she is there. Starts off as an intriguing mystery with good acting, but builds up to a downright hysterical climax. Technically well made but way too melodramatic.
