Our Vines Have Tender Grapes plot
"M-G-M's true-to-life drama"
'Our Vines Have Tender Grapes' is about daily life in a village of Norwegian immigrants in rural Wisconsin in the early 1940s. Seven-year-old Selma Jacobson and five-year-old Arnold Hanson each live on a farm and are friends. Their parents' farms are close together. Selma has had a newborn calf from her father. She calls this calf 'Elizabeth'. Nels Halverson is the publisher and editor of the local newspaper 'Fuller Junction Spectator' and the kids call him 'publisher'. Viola Johnson is the new high school teacher from the big city. Nels wants to marry Viola, but Viola does not want to live permanently in the small quiet village, where the biggest and latest news is that farmer Lars Faraassen is going to build a new barn on his property.
