The bride and groom's numerous friends and acquaintances have gathered for a cheerful weekend of celebrations, music and love. Kym, however, with her biting one-liners and flair for sensational drama, is a catalyst for the lingering tensions in the family dynamic.

According to my wife, this would be a fun movie that we shouldn't miss. I would have given a lot to miss this movie. Haven't seen such a bad movie in a long time. Of the real American exaggeration. Waste of my time.

It's often the bride who misbehaves in movies, but in these gripping Drama/Romance films, it's a little sister.

Kym (Anne Hathaway) is in rehab because of her drinking and drug problems. Now that her sister Rachel (Rosemarie DeWitt) is getting married, she gets permission to be there. The arrival of Kym, as the black sheep of the family, has a very stressful effect.

Anne Hathaway was nominated for an Oscar for her role. And rightly so, because she convincingly plays a young woman plagued by a rough past full of drink, drugs, anorexia and other miseries. Great role also by Debra Winger as the mother of Kym and Rachel, too bad she is so short in the picture.

All in all, a Drama/Romance film shot out of hand, with striking natural acting from the entire cast, especially Anne Hathaway.

Well acted film in which the first 45 minutes and the last part are especially worthwhile. Somewhere in the middle, however, I started to give up. I found the complications surrounding Hathaway very forced and too far fetched, causing the interest and especially the credibility to diminish.

Towards the end, Debra Winger boosts the film a bit, but if this hadn't happened, my rating would have been lower.

What could have been a very nice drama in the end turned into a Festen-like film but a lot less. Missed opportunity. Still good enough for the good acting.

Average.
