Mediocre film, in which President George W. Bush comes out mercifully when you look at all the misery he has caused and left behind in his eight years as "leader of the free world". I could never understand that the Americans elected this nitwit as their president twice. Although... the question is of course always whether he was the real winner in 2000.

My credit goes to Josh Brolin, who portrays an almost eerily real Bush.

Incidentally, Oliver Stone's often politically tinged films just don't have it in my opinion.

Following in your father's footsteps there, Bushy?

After JFK and Nixon, Oliver Stone is now making a film about George W. Bush (Josh Brolin).

This is a biopic as you would expect it, we follow Bush's life before his presidency.

Stone's choice to make one about Bush was a bad choice, personally I think this is one of the most boring presidents of all time, lacking in charisma.

A lot has happened during the Bush presidency, such as 9/11.

But you mainly see Bush before he became president, so that choice was also wrong.

A movie about his presidency would have been much more interesting.

Despite the choice, I think it's great that he manages to make a nice film about Bush, the dialogue is strong and the conversations between Bush and father HW Bush (James Cromwell) are very entertaining.

Enough potency, wrong president.

Well, what do you think of this now? I actually watched this work for the entire 2 hours with a consistent look and frame of mind: shocked at the sadness of this Bush family and very impressed by the acting performance with of course Josh Brolin as the star. My dear Mr Stone, how absurd again this. I kind of have a soft spot for most of Stone's work anyway, I can't disapprove/hate this either. Of course he makes it all too clear what a strange, inept, pathetic man W. is. The crazy thing about this movie is that in a way it's all intensely laughable on its own, but because of the sadness that Bush Sr. and Jr. have brought about - which I consider superfluous to enumerate here - you don't dare to laugh, as it were, even out of a deep contempt for them. All very tragic.

The concept of black comedy now also comes to mind, but this is simply too bad to be labeled as comedy.

Chapeau, Oliver Stone for bringing together such a group of actors and making an intriguing picture about this man - while he was still president - with some haunting scenes. The many dialogues with all that lame bullshit in it; sit down for it. But as mentioned several times here, it leaves you with a strange feeling...
