Mediocre film adaptation of Michael Crichton's book of the same name, made as a television miniseries. You could expect a bit more from producers Ridley and Tony Scott, especially visually. It all looks rather flimsy, with see-through and often ugly visual effects (although the scene with the man beheading himself with a chainsaw does look cool). The cast isn't exactly happy either. Fortunately, the plot is very interesting and at times quite exciting, making this just worth watching. However, I prefer the 1971 film version.

Typical virus-outbreak film (/mini-series) where the clichés are not shunned. The acting is mediocre and the inevitable USA feeling also comes along. It doesn't have to worry about the visual effects either.

In the meantime, it sticks. There is a nice tension and the virus is made interesting. It's not kept superficial, although with biological and/or chemistry interest you'll probably stick with it a little better.

If you don't look too critically and let it come over you, it's a nice evening filler, but that's the highest achievable. I haven't seen the original film, by the way.

Produced by Ridley and Tony Scott, the first half of this two-part miniseries consists mainly of boring science nonsense in a science lab, political nonsense by politicians on the phone or walking around for unexplained reasons. Every now and then we witness an incident that makes it clear to us what all this talk is all about. The second half contains a bit more action, but relies too much on clichés and mediocre special effects that kill an intriguing basic fact. The 1971 version is much better.
