After 30 years in a mental institution, Coffin Joe is finally released. Back in the outside world, he continues what he was doing before being captured; finding a woman who can bear him the perfect child. During his quest through the streets of São Paulo, he leaves behind a trail of death and destruction.

Meh. Zé do Caixão actually didn't do much for me. What has become especially clear to me is that that guy can't act at all. The fact that I speak the language has not helped camouflage that fact. What an overly theatrical person Coffin Joe is. The rest of the cast doesn't do much better either, with the priest being the low point. Now I understand that some people can see the humor in this, but it didn't work out for me. Just some irritation, also because of the SM stuff throughout the film. A movement within horror that really doesn't appeal to me at all. I don't like it and if it weren't for a single cool scene this would have gotten a very low score. Still, I would like to try his older work, because the footage from those films that was included in Embodiment of Evil actually looked quite good. More Gothic and Bava'esque, which suits me much better.

Clutter.
And ugly filming too.
Everything looks cheap in this Brazilian horror. However, the film does contain sporadically depicted gore. We have to figure out a large part of it ourselves. Viva a budget. And what we do see is often quite fake, such as the butt snack. Add to that the disgustingly bad acting and I'm out of here.

The last part of the Coffin Joe series after À Meia-Noite Levarei Sua Alma (1964) and Esta Noite Encarnarei no Teu Cadáver (1967).
This 3rd part contains a little more brutal violence, and the censorship is less strict. All in all, these types of horror films are quite enjoyable to watch. True enthusiasts will undoubtedly rate it more highly. The film won 12 awards and was nominated 4 times.
