Anton Adam is an idealistic prosecutor who hits the headlines when he brings to justice the notorious New York conman Gilmurry. This attracts the attention of a large law firm led by Granville Bentley, who asks Adam to join his team. Adam agrees but moments later falls into the trap Granville has set for him.
