Before the American film studio The Asylum became known for its extensive use of cheap CGI, there were mainly films such as Halloween Night. A fairly cheap event, of course, but slightly more charming than the average computer shark that has to compete against, for example, a mega crocodile. Director Mark Atkins takes the lead and delivers a film that is a very clumsy killer, but has a more than moving pace. The entire build-up to the party is solid and when the teenagers come together at the same party, the film looks touching. The acting is lacking left and right, with Rebekah Kochan in particular playing very poorly. The killer himself is also rather uninterestingly designed by Atkins, as he wears a rather boring mask and seems to be overpowered fairly quickly by the slightest confrontation. Some of the kills are refreshingly in-your-face, although a little too safe in concept to really make a lasting impression. All in all, Halloween Night is quite entertaining material, but limited in its impact. I found the opening remarkably gruesome and brutal compared to the rest of the film, which is much lighter in tone.
