On December 8, 1941, in Manila, the Philippines, the American nightclub singer Claire married John Phillips, an American soldier. Not long after, Claire has no place to go in Singapore when the Japanese invade. After her husband is killed in Bataan, Claire joins secret agent Boone, who teams up with the Philippine underground to sabotage the Japanese occupying forces. Claire is codenamed "High Pockets", but is eventually captured by the Japanese, tortured and eventually sentenced to death.
