Morrison Krijgt een Zusje (2008)

At first, this didn't seem like much more than a very childish film to me. I got that impression at the beginning too, but that changed...

It turned out to be a very entertaining film after all. You can pretty much predict the ending, but it really didn't bother me. I watched the film with pleasure. It doesn't reach the level of the 'Het Paard van Sinterklaas' films, but it is certainly fun enough.

I thought it was a beautifully made and good Dutch film.

Beautiful visuals, well-acted, and occasionally comical.

Is the story suitable for children? From about age 6, I think it might be okay.

Since the little boy in the film suffers quite a bit under the circumstances, it is advisable for parents to watch along. Also to make it clear to your own child that running away can be risky, and also to simply go out with a baby as a small child (+ some other things that came up).

More a film *about* children than a children's film in the sense of "a film *for* children," because the protagonist's anxiety about what the arrival of his new little sister implies seems very relatable to me. Furthermore, the situation isn't really presented as a comedy, so for the target audience, this actually seems just too heavy. The parents don't handle it particularly smartly, and Morrison himself makes some rather odd choices (even for a five-year-old), so generally speaking, it seems best to only let a child watch this film under supervision, as someone above also suggests. However, it is precisely those complications and plotlines that are unexpected in a children's film that keep this movie interesting for me as an adult. It is also nice to see that Kees Boot's face lends itself to both creepy and friendly characters (he first caught my attention as the murderer Jaro in *De brief voor de koning*, coincidentally from the same year). The main downside, as far as I am concerned, is that Tobias Lamberts doesn't intonate very well ("That sweet mama! The most beautiful room in the whole world!"), which significantly hinders my genuine identification with Morrison.
