Pleasantly surprised by this old Aoyama.

Fine film in which both Mitsuishi and Asano know how to shine. The pace is nice, Asano plays a somewhat inscrutable outcast and Mitsuishi takes care of the yakuza story.

Aoyama is responsible for the music and although not my favorite soundtrack work it fits the film well. Visually the film is a bit dull and the story itself is not the most winged, but the running time is short enough and there are enough scenes that stand out.

Aoyama remains a surprising director, always difficult to estimate his films in advance, but ultimately usually worth it. It will never become one of my real favorites, but it is always fascinating.

3.5*

I found it a difficult film to judge, and I didn't understand all the underlying messages. Still, I found it fascinating enough how Aoyama gives his characters volume in his own unique way.

Now take that mentally handicapped sister who is dragged here and there on the motorbike. Beautifully stylized and captured.

And then in another scene we get to an act of violence by the flammable brother. With its 80 minutes not too long with some sharp scenes.
