When Eligio wakes up one morning, he discovers that his wife Susana has left him without saying a word. He has no idea of her motives or whereabouts. His search for the woman he loves takes him from Mexico City to a university in Iowa, where he finds a Susana who no longer accepts his childish behavior. Eligio wants to do everything he can to change her mind, but her determination, the foreign country and the culture don't make it any easier.
