Les Nuits Blanches de Saint-Pétersbourg plot

Pozdnycheff, a riotous young man from St. Petersburg, has caused confusion in a friend's household, causing the latter to commit suicide. He has been obsessed with this memory ever since. He marries and himself becomes the prey of morbid jealousy that drives him to try to kill his wife and one of his friends. He is convicted and imprisoned, but his wife, who has always loved him, continues to wait for him.
