Jack (Tchéky Karyo) lives in the jungles of New Guinea, where his wife, Rose, is murdered. Two years later, in Melbourne, he meets the very wife-like writer Kate (Rachel Griffiths). They fall in love and Jack persuades her to join them in the jungle. Once there, their relationship spirals out of control as Jack starts drinking and is haunted by the memory of his wife.
