Strong, original film noir with this time a 'homme fatale', played by Van Heflin. He is one of two police officers to respond to a phone call from the wealthy Susan [Evelyn Keyes], an attractive woman whose wife [Sherry Hall] earns a pretty penny as a night DJ at a popular radio station. Susan claims a 'prowler' is prowling around, but Webb Garwood [Heflin] and partner Bud Crocker [John Maxwell] find no leads. Later that evening, Webb returns, claiming to reassure Susan once more, and persuades her to have a cup of coffee with him. When Webb finally succeeds in seducing Susan, he sees one more obstacle to overcome: her husband.

Less stylized than the classic film noirs, but the screenplay is a perfect mix of all the necessary ingredients. Keyes is very good as the woman whose motives are never entirely clear and Van Heflin excels in an unusual, unsympathetic role. Donald Trumbo, who reportedly also contributed to the screenplay, provided the voice of the DJ and provides some strong ironic moments in that role. The exciting finale is irony in optima forma and underlines once again that this little-known film can compete with the best of its peers.

Strong film with a good structure , although the beginning goes a bit fast , we do not really know Heflin as a bad guy but he does a good job , Evelyn Keyes was almost unknown to me as an actress but I thought she played well .
